As you know we are in a statewide struggle to protect our children. In Iowa, we have seen the invasiveness of what gender expression choice looks like in our public spaces. Forms of public indecency at local aquatic centers in Orange City, Sioux Center, Jefferson, Seymour, and Pella have occurred. These forms of expression are protected under the 2007 addition of “Gender Identity” to the Iowa Civil Rights Code. As Iowans, it is our obligation to protect our children and stand boldly for the civil rights of minors.
The economic impact of Iowa law allowing self-identified gender expression has resulted in families leaving aquatic centers in massive numbers which has caused significant employment loss as well as financial loss to these communities. The financial impact pales in comparison to the emotional and physical damage it has on our children. The Iowa law is FORCING our young to see and feel the world through the lens of adults. The brains of children are not scientifically developed to process and carry this load our culture is trying to enforce.
